Joka-Bibadi Bagh metro route has been started in the first phase till Taratala. This time the Metro Railway allocation for this route has increased in the current year’s budget (Union Budget). Apart from this, the budget for New Garia-Dakshineshwar and Airport-New Garia Metro projects has been increased. However, the allocation has been kept unchanged in the East-West Metro.
Kolkata city and its surrounding areas are being covered by Metro. And in a few years, the streetscape of Kolkata and its suburbs will change completely. Metro works are underway from East-West, New Garia to Dakshineshwar and Airport to New Garia. This time the Central Government wants to speed up the work.
The allocation in this year’s budget has been increased quite a bit for metro projects in Kolkata. Earlier allocation for New Garia-Dakshineshwar Metro project was Tk 1838 crore. In the current budget, the allocation has been increased to Tk 2450 crore. The Airport-New Garia Metro project was earlier allocated Tk 934 crore.
In the current budget, the allocation has been increased by Tk 1200 crore. 794 crore was allocated for Joka-Mazherhat metro line. The budget has increased to 1350 crores. On the other hand, even after more than a decade, the work of East-West Metro is still not completed. However, the allocation for this route has not been changed in this year’s budget. That 1000 crore rupees was allocated for this route.
