BSE Bankex was the worst performer, with a loss of around 1%, while BSE Capital Goods tried to offset the loss with its substantial gains. Energy and oil and gas stocks also suffered significant losses.
At 11:15 am, the BSE Sensex fell 0.58% to 59,758. The Nifty 50 index fell 0.54% to 17,798 levels. On the Sensex, HCL Technologies, Larsen & Toubro and Ultratech Cement Company were the top gainers, while Axis Bank, Reliance Industries and Kotak Mahindra Bank led the market.
The advance-decline ratio remained neutral on the BSE with 1,561 shares advancing and 1,627 shares declining. Broader indices outperformed major indices. Shares of Goldium International Ltd, the top BSE smallcap gainer, rose over 11% on increased volume. Shares of Cantabile Retail India and 5Paisa Capital Ltd were also heavily bought.
