BSK is currently playing an important role in bringing various social services of the state government to the people of different parts of Bengal. Similarly, the state government is thinking of appointing candidates in BSK centers to reach more people. A meeting was organized in the state cabinet recently. There has been approval for the appointment of new BSK.

At present there are around 3,541 BSKs in 23 districts and block administration ‘AP Centres’ of the state. And around 7,120 candidates are working there. Meanwhile, the state government is on the way to set up more new BSKs. According to sources, plans are being made to construct around 1,461 centers for the establishment of BSK in the panchayat system of the state. As a result new candidates will be recruited in all those centres. In that case, there is a possibility of appointing about 3000 candidates in the prescribed vacancies.

District wise vacancies are: Alipurduar-34, Bankura-78, Birbhum-64, Cooch Behar-48, South Dinajpur-23, Darjeeling-36, Hooghly-79, Howrah-60, Jalpaiguri-35, Jhargram-34, Kalimpong- 29, in Malda-72, in Murshidabad-107, in Nadia-77, in North Twenty-four Parganas-82, in West Burdwan-27, in West Medinipur-103, in East Burdwan-73, in East Medinipur-101, in Purulia-64, in South Twenty-four Parganas-159, North Dinajpur-45 and Kolkata-30. Incidentally, so far more than 9 crore people of the state have benefited from this assistance center. It is believed that if the new plan is implemented, Bengalis living in the panchayat will get various government services.
