According to this agreement, Tata Motors will start supplying vehicles to Uber fleet partners in phases from this month. But a source said Uber is not buying these cars. These vehicles will be delivered to Uber’s fleet partners. Express-T is priced at Rs 13.04 lakh. Besides, the Express-T with a range of 315 km is priced at Tk 14.98 lakh. However, in this case 2.6 lakh rupees is matched as subsidy.
Shailesh Chandra, managing director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, said in a statement, “We are delighted to partner with Uber, the country’s leading ride-sharing platform, as a partner in the growth of the sustainable mobility sector in the country.” He said, through this initiative, customers will get an environment-friendly EV ride experience through Uber’s premium category services.
Prabjit Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, said the company is committed to promoting sustainable mobility in India. This partnership with Tata Motors is a major milestone on this road. He also said that this deal is the largest EV deal between one of the country’s auto manufacturers and the largest ride-sharing platform.
Incidentally, Ola introduced electric car service before Uber. Also a few other small startups have started offering services only through e-vehicles. One of the names in that list is BlueSmart.
